Editing
If we consider your work in need of copyediting,
we provide this service at no extra cost to you. Our editors are understanding
and cooperative. They do not intrude on your authorship; they do not rewrite
unnecessarily; they do not ghostwrite. But they do give help where help is
indicated. It is a rare manuscript that cannot benefit from an experienced
editorial hand. No author, particularly one launching a maiden effort, should
underestimate the value of competent, conscientious copyediting.
Many authors ask us: “What, specifically, do you do when you copyedit
my book?” Generally speaking, we do not tamper with the basic structure.
But we do smooth out sentences for greater clarity, correct spelling, grammar
and punctuation, and make certain that your book is styled according to professional
standards (like so many others, we rely on The Chicago Manual of Style).
If you wish, you may see the edited manuscript before it is set in type. Furthermore,
you are at liberty to discuss our suggestions with a staff member in person,
on the phone, or by mail and email.
After your book is typeset using desktop publishing software, it is delivered
to you in the form of proofs for reading and corrections.
“With sales past 5,000, and two printings, I have nothing but praise for Vantage Press. I believe they try harder to put a book across than many commercial publishers do.”
H.G. Vartanian
