| In view of the uncertain prospects for books by unknowns, how has it been possible for Vantage Press to publish so many new writers? The answer is that we offer a specialized publishing plan tailored to the needs of the new or lesser-known author. |
|
How does the plan work? You, the author, pay for
the publication of your book. The amount varies with each manuscript
depending upon length and other factors which contribute to production
costs. In return for the fee you pay, we publish your book and you
receive 40% of the retail price of every book sold at standard
discounts. (The average bookseller gets 40% of the retail price and
Vantage Press receives 20%.) |
|
|
|
You are not required to make any further financial outlay. Nor are you required or obligated to purchase or sell any of your own books. If demand for your book warrants subsequent printings, they are issued entirely at our expense. What is our part in this arrangement? Vantage Press brings out
an attractive edition of your book, comparable in quality and appearance
with many found in bookstores throughout the country. In addition, we
execute the promotion program that is outlined in your contract. |
|
|
We send out a specified number of review
copies to your local area and across the country. These books go to
newspapers, magazines, and radio and television stations.
We send sample
copies of your book to local bookstores, and special letters to local
libraries, suggesting they order your book. |
| For all these professional services, our
fees are considered fair and reasonable, as evidenced by the fact that
we publish hundreds of new books each year. But please be realistic. Most books by new authors do not sell well, and most authors do not regain the publishing fee. |
