Key Advantages
Established New York Publisher with 60 Years Experience
Vantage was founded in New York in 1949 and has published more than 20,000 titles. Vantage's long history means that we are a well-known publisher with a strong brand and a clear reputation in the book publishing industry among authors, printers, readers, and most importantly booksellers. We are Better Business Bureau Accredited with an A+ rating.
Full Service Provider - No Hidden Charges
Many author services companies will tantalize you with a tiered pricing structure that starts at the copy shop level. But beware, because many of these offerings are exactly this: high-tech copy shops with precious little in the way of guidance, handholding, or editorial and design management. Vantage Press provides a full-service approach to self-publishing: editorial services, copyright and Library of Congress cataloging, art direction and production, publicity staff, and warehousing, billing, and accounting. All for Vantage's one inclusive fee.
Superior Customer Service & Full-Time Staff
Vantage's staff has been together for the long-term and has shepherded thousands of titles into print. You can be confident of a prompt response to a phone call to our office, and you're welcome to visit. Our experience also means that we have excellent relationships with professional editors and designers who will help make your book the best it can be, and solid commercial relationships with high quality printers.
We Craft Books
As an author, your goal is to see your book in print and fully available to the market. Vantage prides itself on the physical quality of its books and on the competence of its design. We have excellent printing relationships and are also exploring the latest print-on-demand technologies. All of our books are available to retailers on their traditional terms without the lack of returnability that prevents many self-published books from being stocked. Also, should you choose we will create an eBook version for the major devices including Kindle, iPad, and Nook.
True to Our Authors' Intentions
A book incubates in the mind of its author for a long time. Most books, even those by successful authors, will benefit from the perspective of a Vantage editor, and each Vantage title receives a thorough copyediting. Authors have the benefit of receiving at least one set of paper or electronic proofs - more if warranted - to ensure that the typeset book conforms to their manuscript and intentions. We also welcome author input into our cover and jacket designs. If you wish, you may provide artwork or photographs for the cover and illustrations for the book itself; alternatively, Vantage can provide professional artwork. Authors specifically approve covers - including flap and back cover copy - before printing.
Generous Royalties and Unlimited Reprints
Vantage pays authors a royalty of 40% of the cover price on copies sold at standard discounts. Vantage pays royalties twice a year, in October and April. Vantage pays for the reprints to ensure that you can continue to collect royalties. We must caution you that few titles recoup their fee.
Experience and Versatility in All Categories
Vantage publishes both black and white and color volumes, in hardcover and paperback, from poetry chapbooks to multi-volume treatises, with illustrations and without. We are looking for submissions in many genres - fiction, poetry, memoir, and history, current affairs, religious, and children's books - and have specific expertise in these and many other types of books. Vantage will tailor its publishing proposal to your manuscript and your wishes, while taking into account our own knowledge of the market. That's why we insist on reviewing your manuscript - in complete confidence - before deciding whether to accept your book for publication and what parameters to set for our proposal.
An Independent Approach
Vantage is an independent company without the stress and bureaucratic oversight of some of our competitors. It may surprise you that many of the major self-publishing houses are in fact components of a single conglomerate, Author Solutions. Backed by a private equity firm, Author Solutions has been buying up other print-on-demand publishers and now controls Xlibris, iUniverse, Trafford, and AuthorHouse, and provides private label services to other publishers and sites as well. All the Author Solutions subsidiaries style themselves a bit differently, but one imprint speaks for all of them when it declares "Xlibris is not a publisher." Author Solutions pumps out more than 20,000 books a year, almost a hundred times more than Vantage. Can you be assured of individual attention from a conglomerate?
An Appropriate Commitment
You do not forfeit your rights by publishing with Vantage Press: you may terminate our
publishing relationship two years after publication if you so choose. Of course, if your book is selling well, we'd
love to keep it in print for you!

“I love the book and the look of it. There have been times when I doubted my judgment for spending that amount of money on publishing such a simple tale, but now I have read it as it is - a real book! What could be a better legacy to leave my children than to give them the chance to relive their childhood? And not only my children, but my children's children.”
