2. Design and Production

After your manuscript has been copy-edited it goes to our Production Department. Here the physical appearance of your book is determined, and all elements are chosen to harmonize with the spirit of the subject matter. This department selects the style and size of type, designs the book throughout, and handles all other mechanical aspects of book production. If illustrations, drawings, tables or charts are required for your book, and are not submitted with the manuscript, we enlist talented artists to prepare this material. If pictorial matter is supplied by the author, we examine it carefully to see if it is of good quality and will reproduce properly. We handle unusual production problems with professional care.

In addition, a skilled artist is busy designing a distinctive, professional cover or jacket. This work is done by designers who create their designs after studying the theme of your book. At the same time, our Promotion Department is writing the descriptive copy or "blurb" and biographical sketch that appear on the cover or jacket.

Your book is now completed — a book that will compare favorably with the productions of other American publishers.
